How can I use my talent to beautify the school and to fulfill the need for more teaching space?
Hi all!
My name is Ashlyn Robinson, and this is the story of my senior project painting a mural. At the end of the year last year, one of my teachers, Ms. Wilson, mentioned it would be a really awesome to paint a mural for their senior project. I decided that this was what I wanted to do. That summer I exchanged emails with Ms. Wilson and decided an ocean scene would be awesome. I would also be able to make it a teaching space by using chalkboard paint in the middle.
I created a sketch and then a painting on a small canvas, taking inspiration from the sea life from Sulawesi, Indonesia. After getting approval, the school year started, and so did the rest of my project.
The first week of school was filled with research and phone calls to paint supply stores to try to get discounts on paint. Ace Hardware gave me free paint, and I got a coupon from Home Depot, and did most of my shopping there. I purchased paint, brushes, plastic for the floor, and painter's tape. I got chalkboard paint from Walmart, as well as a few brushes.
After getting supplies, the next step was to take everything to the school and start sketching then painting. After finishing the sketch on the wall, I prepped the room and put down the plastic so there wouldn't be paint on the floor. I started with the chalkboard paint, then got to work on the coral. I finished the animals last. It was a very long process but I'm very grateful for the experience I gained from it.
